PRICES AND ACCOLADES
Andreas Laible heads up the winery that has probably collected the most medals and awards in all of Baden-Wuerttemberg. A total of more than 600 gold medals at state and national competitions speak for themselves. 22 special state awards, 11 special national awards (2 golds) also bear testimony to the creativity and on-going drive for excellence that characterises this renowned vineyard. This effort was rewarded with the title “Rising star of the year” in 2000,Vintner of the Year, Best Young Winemaker of the Year 2007 (Andreas jun.), Upcoming Winery of the Year Gault Millau. The crowning achievement for Andreas Laible was when he won the prize for “World Best Riesling”. The Laibles have to work hard to achieve these successes, in contrast to many other producers they have to work the steep rocky slopes of the Durbacher Plauelrain site, the best sections of which can only be worked by hand. Against this background, Andreas, the restlessly active winemaker, has been dubbed by regional media the “Star of the steep slopes”.
Andreas has a wide reputation in Germany as one of the most innovative and successful producers, coming from a family that has been involved in wine production since 1672. By using a particular set of over a dozen clones, Andreas is able to produce Rieslings of particular complexity with a distinctive bouquet. The steep granite Plauelrain hill overlooking Durbach is home to the small, 7.5 hectare vineyard from which Andreas consistently produces his prize winning wines. International Accolades include Oz Clarkes 2009 – “the most elegant Rieslings in Baden”; “fragrant, medium bodied Spaetburgunder reds” and Hugh Johnson’s 2009 Book of Wine – “ Consistently rewarding quality”.
